Rel nofollow (rel=”nofollow”) is a value that’s added to a hyperlink which specifies that the hyperlink should not be afforded additional rank or value. Adding this attribute to external links lets the search engines know that you don’t want to give that link additional “link juice.”

If you don’t add rel=”nofollow” to external links on your website then it tells that the search engines that you want to give additional value to the external site which in turn takes away “link juice” from your website.

It’s okay to link to external sites however you want to keep the link juice on your website. You don’t want to help your competitors rankings, yet each time that you don’t add this code to your links it helps to boost their seo rankings.

Note: You want to add it with quotes around nofollow before href and add a space between the end quote and href. Make sure to add the equals sign after rel as well.
